Rebuilding- The Master

Sorry for the delay. We had a very busy Thanksgiving week. When we are not renovating we are living our lives with our little one, like this:

but our home is starting to look like this:

this is where the opening to the nursery was.

Fireplace is all framed out and cleaned up. 

No more purple/blue walls! Although I was getting somewhat attached to color. We'll chalk that up to Stockholm syndrome. Its starting to look and feel real.  

We still need to strip all the window frames. I have been struggling with this because the Methlyomine Chloride is not cutting through some of the layers. Not even color change. MC is pretty strong stuff too. So I may need to invest in some Peel Away 1 or 7 just to make my life easier. 

Soon we can start talking about paint colors! 

It Has Got To Go: The Closets

Ahhhhhh..... Very grateful they didn't damage the moldings behind! Some might call us crazy for taking these out but they weren't build to suit our needs or built well for that matter. They gave both rooms the same amount of closet space and were never finished out. 

Here is the before (ok, really mid demo) shot. That is just dust in the picture. 

So the closets were basically halved with a storage area above. There were some good intentions here. But it missed the mark. We love our ikea wardrobes (the PAX system)  that we have used in our last 2 apartments. 

What We Found: 4 Motorcycle Helmets and an AeroBed.  Any takers for the helmets? Safety First! 

From The Beginning: The Nursery

I love this little room. it has the coolest features out of the entire space. More pocket shutters, crown molding, big fat baseboards and a special archway. 

Like I said, not very big. But, it is big on beauty (under the paint that is). If we didn't have Duke, this would be an amazing closet. 

This side of the house used to be the living room at one point in time. And is gorgeous arch was was sealed up. At least someone was smart enough to minimally cover it up.

We are thinking it should be dubbed the "Blueish Purple Room"

Conduit trying to "blend in" and failing. But really, the crown molding in the two bedrooms made up for everything bad on the walls and floors. 

I know there is something good behind that wall, its hollow. My money is on a fire place! 

All sorts of ugly. Lets be honest. 

Grossest carpet ever. I mean EVER. ick. I'll spare you the gross details. 

All of the windows are pocket shutters! Unfortunately they have been caulked shut (eye roll), and when they put new windows in they were built in so the shutters will not open. I was very disappointed. But they are still very cool. If you ever go to a really good restored brownstone they should have them. Its just a cool feature. Everyone keeps saying we should just cover them up. But I will not hear of it.
